Trace and Modify

My Toyota Celica Concept
This can also be seen on my Flickr page.
Chip Foose I am not.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and ever since I saw Sushi Machine's Celica I've wanted one of my own.

Here's my idea of the Celica I want. I've included some of the mods I want done on the car. Color scheme is not final. I just don't want it to be a total carbon copy of Sushi Machine's.

I found an image online of the Celica and did my best to trace the basic shape. Then I added the modifications, like the fender flares, tires, hood side mirrors, and interior by myself.

I'm "forcing" myself to do one sketch a day so I can practice. This isn't technically a bad thing, because there are times I really do not want to practice. I can't let myself sit idly by without improving so I am giving myself a quota.

I still can't do it straight, I miss one or two days at a time. I do make sure that I don't miss more than two days.

No Practice Makes Nothing

20140706_Sketch
It has been almost a month since I last practiced with digital art. I know I should maintain a daily routing practicing both my 2D and 3D skills so they won't dull. I just can't find the strength to do it after a tiring day at work.

I've got one or two "projects" that will hopefully help me practice. In the meantime, this is a quick sketch I did tonight.

Inspiration

Inspiration comes at the strangest hours. Take this bikini babe work-in-progress:

It's a work day, and I suddenly had the urge to draw. Not wanting to let go of the sudden gush of inspiration I decided to try sketching on the canvas.

Considering I'm still pretty new to digital sketching I'm pretty happy with what I've done so far. I'm almost at the same level of consistency with how my real pen and paper drawings look. That's not really something to celebrate since I"m not really that good a 2D artist - yet.

I have to finish this sketch, since I won't be getting better with uncompleted personal projects. Plus I won't learn if I won't do. So like Nike says, "Just do it."

Practicing Digital Painting

My First Freehand Digital Sketch
One of my early attempts at digital sketching and painting.
I recently purchased a Wacom CTH-480 and I wanted to add 2D digital sketching and painting to my skills. I haven't been practicing much as of late, since I seem to have gotten impatient and want to be great at this new skill ASAP.

However today I got the urge to draw, and I decided that instead of tracing images I would try freehand sketching and coloring. This is the result.

My current plan is to learn new skills, and definitely practice my old ones, and make new material for my portfolio. Let's face it, my demo reel is old and most of the latest works I did from my previous game dev job I was not able to get copies of. Why? Because I requested to get copies of it but never got approval.

Throwback Thursdays - Talim

2008 Rig - Talim
One of my earlier and successful rigs for low-poly games
As part of my game dev training we were given pre-existing low-poly models to rig and animate back in 2008. These models were for an IP that my previous employer was planning to try and pitch for the Nintendo DS. The models weren't mine, I merely did a new rig using bones and IK.

If I remember right,  there are two attack animations, a damaged animation, a move cycle, and a death animation. You can see the shaded playblast and a wireframe playblast down below.

Enjoy!
